iNSTRUCTOR / WORKSHOP DIRECTOR:

Tiago de Faria, of Portuguese nationality, has been director and university professor since 1999, having worked in Angola, England, the Czech Republic, Morocco, Portugal and Spain. He graduated as an actor at the Escola Superior de Teatro e Cinema, Lisbon, and specialized in actor training techniques with a master’s degree from the Central School of Speech and Drama, London, where he also taught. He has a postgraduate degree in contemporary dance from the London Contemporary Dance School and a specialization in stage movement and choreographic composition from the Trinity Laban Conservatoire Of Music & Dance, London.

He has won two awards as director at theatre festivals in Spain and Morocco. He has directed several research programmes in Portugal and the United Kingdom. He was artistic and research director of a research centre in the fields of theatre, performance and artistic studies based in Évora, where he created an international summer school dedicated to performing arts and an international festival of fine art, music, dance and theater. He began his work as a director in 1998, having performed more than 25 shows between Portugal and England between 1998 and 2011.

His interest in artistic creation combines research through the practice and use of new technologies. His shows highlight his collaboration with conductor António Victorino D'Almeida, who composed the soundtrack of the show "Julieta" in 2010.

He has published articles on research through practice (PAR - practice as research) and artistic creation as a factor in the development of communities and citizenship.

He is currently finishing his PhD in scenic composition at the University of Winchester in the UK.

He created the project Teatro Manga, which in 2019 premiered the show "A Sacalina" and in 2022 the show "Emigrantes". He has worked with Emine Fisek on new dynamics for citizenship through theatre and dance. In this context, developed a research and creation project around the work "Migrants" by Issa Watanabe, with students from the school Rainha D. Leonor, Lisbon, in 2022 /2023.

In 2023 he directed the show “Ouço-te na sombra da praça vazia mas não sei de ti”, as part of the POP Festival 2023. This show was attended by more than 150 members of the community of São Miguel Island, 32 of which were part of the cast, and premiered on November 29, 2023 at the Coliseu Micaelense.
